Some things become more than the sum of their parts.
Take words, for instance.
Thanksgiving—two simple words, thanks and giving, that somehow create something entirely new when pressed together. Not just gratitude. Not just generosity. Something bigger that arrives once a year with stuffing and family debates about whether cranberry sauce belongs in a can.
English is full of these happy collisions. A butterfly is neither butter nor fly. Imagine a cube of butter with wings flying around the room. Breakfast doesn’t require breaking anything. And somehow understand has nothing to do with standing under something.
Then there’s celebrity culture, which turned word-smashing into sport. Brangelina. Bennifer. Names that became headlines, then history, then—in Jennifer’s case—a comeback tour.
It got me thinking: what would we call some of the mashups in our industry?
Walkaway is good a mashup but not so much for your business.
How about Traffortunity? (Traffic + Opportunity)
Followthrough? Oh wait, that’s already a word—just one too many retailers forget to do.
Your turn. Reply with your best word mashup—retail-related or otherwise. Best one gets a free foot traffic diagnostic valued at $3,600, our profound respect, and a mention in next week’s post.
However you’re spending this week, we hope it’s filled with the good stuff—full tables, meaningful conversations, and at least one nap that goes longer than planned.
Happy Thanksgiving. Here’s to a Black Friday that brings the right kind of traffic through your doors—and that you convert every one of them.
Cheers,
Jerry and your Trakwell team
